The plant is believed to originally come from Egypt and other parts of Northern Africa where it grew along the river Nile. Today, the plant also grows in other parts of the world, and can be found in India and some other parts of Asia.

Blue Lotus was intimately known to the Ancient Egyptians, where it played an important part in various aspects of their culture. The plant was widely popular for its aphrodisiac and mild psychedelic properties, which made it one of the first party drugs. Wild.

Blue Lotus can often be found depicted on the walls inside Ancient Egyptian tombs. This leads researchers to believe that Ancient Egyptians used Blue Lotus also for religious purposes due to its psychoactive effects. On ancient paintings, the Blue Lotus is often depicted together with wine, which suggests that the Egyptians made alcoholic beverages and tinctures with the plant. Sounds like they knew how to throw a good party.

*Australian Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) Artemisia Vulgaris aka Mugwort has to have the best name in the herb world, it’s the cool cousin of wormwood and st john’s wort and really lucked out in the name department there. I like to think Mugwort makes us all little less Muggle like. In the magical tradition of witchcraft Mugwort was used to enhance astral projection, lucid dreaming and altered states of consciousness, it has long been used as a visionary herb and an inter-realm gatekeeper, so definitely the cool cousin, right? Mugwort also has some less ‘out there’ benefits;1. Arthritis and joint pain remedy 2. Digestive health; Mugwort is choleretic – a substance that increases the volume of secretion of bile from the liver, helping to transport and release toxins whilst providing great benefit to the digestive system.  It is also a chologogue – a substance that stimulates the flow of bile from the liver, differing slightly from a cholerectic which increases the volume. The secretion of bile is of great help to the whole digestive and assimilative process, and as we are what we eat – we are what we digest. The role of bile is primarily that of facilitating fat digestion, but also being a natural laxative it is thus cleansing to the system. Mugwort is also known as a bitter digestive that can relieve stomach acidity, dyspepsia, travel sickness and acute bowel and stomach pain. When there is an ease to digestion the body can spend more time on healing in rest.3. Moon time blues; Mugwort is a uterine tonic and an emmenagogue (a substance that stimulates or increases menstrual flow). The uterus depends on healthy circulation to the pelvic region and strong uterine muscles to function properly. A toned uterus that is receiving good blood circulation allows for healthy monthly periods. *Frankincense Resin and Essential Oil (Boswellia carterri ) The master oil, a firm favourite of mine. Frankincense is excellent for meditation, contemplation and prayer. Frankincense helps to cease mental chatter, stills the mind and creates inner peace, awakens insight and spiritual awareness and connection. Frankincense has centering and comforting properties, it’s also useful for visualisation.

Blue Lotus Essential Oil (Nymphea cerulea) I’m quite frankly obsessed with the smell of Blue Lotus. Blue Lotus doesn’t just smell good though, it’s excellent to aid in any meditation practice and sacred ceremonies. Blue Lotus is believed to heighten spiritual growth, invokes feelings of beauty and sensuality, it is revitalising for your spirit, creates a feeling of well being, euphoria and ecstasy. Blue Lotus promotes kindness and gives a better perception of understanding and forgiveness.
